Paper crane woman
sits for a portrait
upon a pedestal
of once-upon-a marriage band
softly humming
‘I heard it through the grapevine’
; O say, she’d rather
be dressed in
leathers and arrogant lipstick
a violent shade of Viola Riot
not hot and bothered
in sour cream lavender sateen
all silver slivers of porcelain lace.
This cameo, a guest-ghost appearance –
her obsidian eyes boring into
an absent animal husbandry audience.

drowses in summer’s heat

As always, your imagery is delightful. I love the haiku at the end! Equisite!

thanks so much – rusty on writing haiku and all that mind – that taxed my brain for awhile π

I think haiku are SO hard to write!

Absolutely. Totally. But that’s to be expected in a sense – it took Basho over 20 years to perfect his frog/pond haiku – so why should it be easy to write one in a pinch?! π I know I had a devil of a time with this one ….

I like the playful nature of the free verse and how you alight with your haiku. Nicely done. She is a beautiful flower!

I think your response is the most original take on this prompt! I love it.
And I like how your haiku fits but also can stand alone.

thanks so much Merril π My mind just wandered off and let loose …. you know, asking the delicious “what if” or perhaps, more importantly, directed me to the “turn it sideways or upside down”
